It doesn’t look like much, does it? I think sometimes the Lord looks at me and He says the same thing: “Don’t look like much…don’t look like much.” But you know one of those verses that has always resonated with me is Jeremiah 29:11 where the Lord says “I know the plans I have for you; plans to prosper you, plans to use you in a mighty way for my kingdom purposes.” I think that before He creates us, before He created this land, before these were ever sprouting out of the ground here, the Lord looked at this land and said “I know the plans I’ve got for you.”
You might be in pine trees now, but you’re not going to be in pine trees forever. And now we’re at that place where we have to be able to see things that we can’t see literally, but we have to have that double vision to see what is and to see what could be. Here we are in the midst of a forest, really. We’re wanting to see a new campus here. You can hear the cars going by out there and trucks going by. Right now there are thousands of cars on that road out there on Argent Blvd., but in 10 years from now there will be tens of thousands of cars there. This is a woods now. Within the next 10 years, there will be 50,000 homes built right through this part of Jasper County. We’re wanting to be right there at the front of that. We want to be on the front side of being prepared to receive all the folks that God is bringing this way. This is one of the tracts of land that we’re looking to purchase here in southern Jasper County, and we’ll want about 15 acres here because we’ll want to build just what we did with the first phase of Cross Schools; to build an elementary school, a preschool, an after-school program, and a worship space in the middle of it to meet the needs of the young families that are moving here.
That’s who’s coming. This isn’t going to be a retirement area like it was in Sun City, these are young families coming to work. Let’s keep in mind the Jasper Ocean Terminal is going to be about 17 miles from here; the largest container port in the country right there. 50,000 jobs. That’s going to bring folks with all kinds of skills. We want to be here waiting for them. By God’s grace He’s given us a vision, and we believe we have the resources to be able to marshal both the people, and finances, and skills to be able to marshal all that we need to do for this land to become what it can be so that the Church of the Cross can become what God has in mind for it. The idea of moving from where we start, Jeremiah 29:11 - “I know the plans I have for you”, to the ending place where God says, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” That’s where we are; trying to get from here to there. By God’s grace this will be a part of it; it’ll be transformed just like the Lord does a work in you and me, He’s going to do a work on this piece of land right here for His Glory. And He’s called us into partnership with Him and we just rejoice and want to be stewards of that opportunity.
Thanksgiving’s coming just a few days from now, and we’ll be thanking the Lord for all the things He has given us. This Thanksgiving I’ll be thanking Him for the vision, and for trusting me and you to be in a partnership with Him to move in mighty, mighty ways. We’re called to be a steward of opportunities, and this is an opportunity and we’re here at the right time, Praise God. I pray that you’ll join in praying for the vision for another campus here and one about 6 miles from here that we can reach tomorrow. See, it’s about the present reaching out to the future. We’re called into that and I thank you for your fellowship and your partnership. By God’s grace, we can do it. We can do it. Blessings.
